Anyone! Each year, the Bayard Rustin Educational Complex auditorium is packed with an enthusiastic audience of over 500 people.

If I am interested in performing, how many people can I perform with?

You can perform alone or in a group. There really is no limit.

What do I need to bring to the auditions?

Any music that you'll be using must be on a CD that you can leave with us on the day of the audition. If you are using original music, you must also bring a copy of the lyrics. If you are singing with the music, make sure it is instrumental only.

Do I have to come in costume for auditions?

No, but you must get your outfit pre-approved and wear it during the last rehearsal.

Can profanity / nudity / obscenity be part of my performance?

Absolutely not! Although we acknowledge your creativity, we prohibit any content that is likely to offend the audience. Everyone attending Music Fest should be able to feel comfortable and safe during the performances. If you are unsure about what constitutes as offensive, feel free to contact us and we will let you know whether your performance is appropriate for the talent show.

How many rehearsals will we have to get ready for the show?

Eight. The performers benefit from the Production Team’s guidance on sound, lighting and presentation during each rehearsal; thereby, helping for a stronger and more professional performance. Rehearsals for TORCH Music Fest 2010 will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, April 21st - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Saturday, April 24th - Noon - 6:00pm
  • Wednesday, April 28th - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 5th - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 12th - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Saturday, May 15th - Noon - 6:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 19th - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 26th - 3:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Wednesday, June 2nd - 3:30pm - 8:00pm

What if I make the cut but I cannot make every rehearsal?

All rehearsals are mandatory. However, we may be able to still fit you in as long as you have a valid excuse and have notified the TORCH Production Team.

How are winners determined?

Each performer is required to sign a performer contract and must abide by all the rules to be eligible to compete at the event. This includes (but is not limited to) attending all rehearsals and cooperating with the TORCH Production Team. During the talent show, a panel of talent scouts, music and entertainment industry professionals will judge their performances.
